The pace of play in Event #16 is moving along nicely. Over the last level more than 20 people have been eliminated and we are around 95 players remaining. EVENT #15 WINNER'S BRACKET FINALS

Jesse Yaginuma and Mike Leah are both undefeated and, after five wins each, are playing to stay alive in the winner's bracket.

The winner is guaranteed second place money ($16,000) and would have to be beaten twice by the loser's bracket champion to lose the title. The first of the possible two matches will happen in early Friday evening.

The Yaginuma/Leah loser drops into the loser's bracket and will play in the 3rd/4th place match and is guaranteed no worse than 4th place money ($6,400).

EVENT #15 - FINAL FOUR (WINNER'S BRACKET)

It took longer to post about the Round 3 battle between Jason Young and Mike Leah that the match actually lasted. Leah won the match handily and will move into the final 4 in the winner's bracket.

Those matches are currently underway. The matchups are Will Failla versus Mike Leah and Jesse Yaginuma versus Matt Vance. The winners will move one step closer to the title.

Gavin Smith is currently battling against Russell Crane in the losers bracket and we have a match between Gene Castro and Al Riccobono. The path to the championship is shorter in the winner's bracket in terms of matches played, but the field only grows tougher as they move forward.

It didn't take long, but Bill Blanda was the first one to notch his first loss in the Double Elimination Heads Up tournament. He was just about the most unhappy person in the room as he explained how Mike "GoLeafsGoEh" Leah ran like a god and flopped hardcore. Blanda still has a chance to cash and win the tournament from the loser's bracket.

We have received the official payout numbers for the event. The tournament was capped at 64 players with a $1,000 + $90 buyin. The top 6 will make the money.

EVENT #15 - DIFFERENT ANIMAL

The heads up tournament is diffinitely something interesting to see in person. Some players embrace the opportunity to actively engage their enemy is conversation while others still just put their little hoody up and hide their twitches.

Gavin Smith was the last to fill his table yet no one has gone busto yet. One interesting table missed during the draw was the Bill Blanda / Mike Leah matchup. Leah has an early chip leap and Blanda has decided to take a walk to cool down.

Kathy Liebert didn't realize that drawing Will "The Trill" was completely random and not some joke played by the poker gods. She said, "Will is tough to play heads up, he won't play a single hand until the blinds force him to do so." While Kathy was talking, Will took the chance to flash the guns.

32 matches are still going on strong. Each table has it's own clock so there are no fixed levels. We will update as events warrant.

By far one of the most interesting events during the 2009 Borgata Poker Open will be the introduction of the $1,000 + $90 Heads Up Double Elimination tournament. 64 players will pony up their money to battle one-on-one against another player with a chance to take home big cash, a great trophy, and a year's worth of bragging rights.

The final table is set and the bubble breaks when Chet Destefeno's pair of kings knocks out Andrew Esbensen and his pair of twos. Play is done for the night and the 8 players return to play for the $13,699 top prize.

"How am I here?" asks Destefano rhetorically. "I had 14 thousand with 12 players left."

Chip leader Travis Williams continues to build his stack, "I've never made it to day 2 of a tournament and now I have the chip lead," he says with nearly 1/3 of the chips in play. "I'm going to keep letting the hands play themselves, just like I've done all tournament. I've been lucky by hitting most of my draws."

EVENT #12 - JUSTIN LEVY TAKES TITLE

John "TooRoothlus" Levy wins Event #12

Once play was down to three handed, there were a few hands folding around before the final fireworks on tournament went off.

Levy had a huge chip lead followed by Avunoori and Kosak. Avunoori open with a raise and Levy called all-in. Kosak got out of the way and Avunoori called after some deliberation. His QQ was ahead of Levy's A4h but the cruel gods of poker pulled an Ace on the turn. Levy's was almost apologetic to the soft spoken Avunoori who quietly built his stack during the day. He will take home $13,524 for his efforts.

Only John Kosak stood in Levy's way and he swore that he would give Levy a battle til the end. The battle lasted exactly one hand, long enough for me to snap the picture below. Kosak was first to act and announced all-in and Levy called. Kosak was behind preflop with KJ but outflopped Levy's A9s.

They Levy was running today, no one around the table was surprised with yet another ace hit the turn and the tournament was over.

This is Levy's largest cash in a live tournament and he was having fun the entire way. Kosak wins $26,203 for 2nd place. Justin Levy adds $$48,283 to his bankroll and a sweet trophy.

EVENT #12 - PETER ALSON ELIMINATED IN 4TH

Author Peter Alson battled it out on this tough final table avoiding as many trouble spots as he could. He rarely tangled with Justin Levy's big stack immediately to his right. He instead found himself nearly down to the felt in a hand with Bosu Avunoori. Alson's A4 was way behind the aces of Avunoori, who did the honors on knocking Alson out shortly thereafter.

Alson had a great run to the final table after starting Day 2 second in chips. He takes home $11,834 for 4th place.

EVENT #12 - DARA AND GHEBAN ELIMINATED

Two more players were recently eliminated, with one of those actually not taken down by Justin Levy. Although in the long run he still ended up with both player's chips.

Esfandiar Dara found himself on the shortstack after a battle with John Kosak. He ended up putting all his chips on the line but was unable to outflop or outrun the A9 of Tuan Gheban.

Just a few hands later, Gheban used those chips to try and double against the massive chip stack of Justin Levy. His two face cards were dominated by Levy. KQ versus AQ. The board ran out J 5 8 2 T for no help and Tuan Gheban is our 5th place finisher.

Steve Dannennman, Bill Blanda and Will "The Thrill" Failla all at the same table? Yup, right here at the Event Center, playing in one of the many Sit and Go tournaments offered during the Poker Open.

Not all of the action includes recognizable professionals, as players craving action are getting their fix with the single table tournaments.

While the Borgata Poker Open features 49 events (21 awarding championship trophies), there are Sit and Goes priced as low as $120. There's a steady stream of players lining up at the podium to either get their name on the list or pay their entry fee.

So, even if you're not planning on playing in anything on the Main Event schedule, stop in for a Sit and Go, or head to the Poker Room, where 85 tables await your action 24-7!

Some of the more recognizable Seven Card Stud names are on the rail. Dr. Will Noyes only gets to play a few hands before his stack of 2,000 is gone. He spent the entire day finishing 4th in the HOSE event.

Chris Reslock, Event #3 (PLO) Champion, uses pocket aces to knock out Mike "Hooks" Lanzetta.

Well known pro Anna Wroblewski is out, as is Bill "Bumpereno" Munley.

20 players remain with an average stack of 41k.

The original plan was to stop at 16 players or 2 AM, whichever came first. But organizers have the option to play down to the final table of 8, and will make the call when 16 remain.

EVENT #12 - "ONE OF A KIND"

The biggest name at Event #12's final table probably doesn't register in the minds of casual poker players/fans. Peter Alson is one of the best poker authors in land. He co-wrote with Nolan Dalla what is considered the top biography of the late Stuey Ungar, One of a Kind: The Rise and Fall of Stuey "The Kid" Ungar.

Alson comes to the final table sitting 4th in chips. 6 players still remain.

EVENT #12 - BOB NEWTON ELMINATED IN 7TH

Another player out and another skin on Justin Levy's wall.

The victim this time was 7th place finisher Bob Newton who found himself all-in with AQ and this time Levy was holding pocket tens. No drama, sweating, or redraws on the board. Levy takes home $6,762 for his 7th place finish.

EVENT #12 - MIKE FEDELE ELIMINATED IN 8TH

The carnage continues unabated. Before I could snap up the last post, Mike Fedele found himself in a battle with our chip leader Justin Levy. Fedele was holding AJ and facing a bet from Levy that would put him at risk. He said if it was anyone other than the huge chip leader he thinks harder about it. He made the call and was up against Big Slick.

The AK help up and Fedele is sent to the cage to pick up his $5,072 for 8th place.

Joseph Making Another Run

Johanssy Joseph (Spring Valley, NY) is a force to reckon with as play continues after the dinner break. Joseph takes down a healthy pot when he check raises the turn and his opponent folds.

"Remember that hand," says good friend Ryan Eriquezzo, who's on the rail. "We have a side bet over here." Joseph, who cashed in the Deep Stack, is now one of the chip leaders with more than 100k.

As Joseph stacks his new found wealth, Karen Dinunzio (S. Euclid, OH) joins the table and blurts out to Joseph, "hey I knocked you out yesterday! You're doing a lot better today." Joseph and Dinunzio both played in Event #12 ($350 + $50).

60 players remain with an average stack of 57k. The plan is to play until 2 AM or 27 players, which ever comes first. The bubble breaks at 27.

EVENT #12 - WOOD AND KATZ ELIMINATED

It didn't take very long before we drew first blood. On the very first hand of the final, our leader Justin Levy sent two players to the rail. Levy snap called after a shove (Eric Wood) and re-shove (Michael Katz). He was ahead and stayed that way with his QQ versus AQ and AT. Levy now has a monstrous chip lead.

With the shorter stack, Wood will take home $2,198 for 10th and Katz earns $3,382 for 9th.

EVENT #12 - POST DINNER RUSH

It's happened before, immediately upon returning from an hour's worth of food the players are friskier and we see a lot more action. In just under an hour we have dropped four players and we are down to our final ten. The players are re-drawing for seats and we'll be back with seats and chip counts.

William Fouke was our first to exit in the 14th spot on the very first hand back from dinner. He pushed his short stack in with KJ and was called by the big stacks A4. No improvement and he's done for the day with $,198

Also eliminated during that level was Justin Fox (12th for $1,198) and Peter Herold (11th for $1,198).

The fun hand of the level involved John Kosak who found himself all-in preflop racing against Bosu Avunoori. He was ahead with the TT versus AJ. He took control on the flop and rivered the case ten for exclamation.

Henry Porcaro (Warwick, NY) praised The Borgata after his 1st place finish. "It was a tough field, but great structure...Everything here is excellent," said the soft-spoken retiree from FDNY. Porcaro was all smiles as he exited the Event Center with $21,350 and the Borgata Trophy

EVENT #11 - H.O.S.E

The local Boardwalk Merchant was in good spirits after his 2nd place HOSE finish. "Charlie" Brahmi (Ventnor City, NJ) has been playing mixed games and high-stakes Stud since the early 80's. The life-long rounder told the dealer and floor staff, "Borgata is the nuts" after receiving $11,590 in prize money.

EVENT #12 - DINNER BREAK

We eliminated three times as many players in this level as last. Quick math equals just three more eliminations over the last 50 minutes of play. The remaining 14 players are heading off on their dinner break after surviving the "dinner voucher" bubble.

Day 2 starting chip leader Daniel Jacob received the toughest beat of the level. After a pre-flop raising battle, he was all-in versus Peter Alson in another coin flip. Jacob was holding AQ and flopped his ace but Alson also hit a set on the flop with his 88. No river help and our starting chip leader is gone. Jacob pockets $1,116 for his efforts.

Also eliminated during that level was and Frankie Greever (15th for $1,606) and Michael Gorelik (17th for $1,116).

Players will return to blinds at 10,000-20,000 ante 3,000. Average chipstack is 345,000.

Heads-Up Play Begins...

Charlie Brahmi and Henry Porcaro are almost even in chips as they battle for the Borgata trophy and over $20,000 in cash.

EVENT #11 - H.O.S.E

Peter Marvo (Douglaston, NY) grinded the short stack most of the day, but managed to earn 3rd place honors and $7,320 for his play. "He reads situations and changes gears really well," said one onlooker from the rail.

Willard Noyes (Thompson, PA) was eliminated in 4th place when his lone pair of Queens was scooped by the two pair and nut low draw of our chip-leader, Henry Porcaro. "Dr. Will" earned $5,490 before jumping back into Event #14.

EVENT #11 - H.O.S.E

Lance Mesler (Linden, NJ) was eliminated when his J-high straight fell short to Aces full of our chipleader, Henry Porcaro. The 5th place finisher fell victim in the Stud Hi/Lo round, but took home $4,270 in prize money. Look for him and his brother to make some deep runs in future mixed events.

EVENT #12 - GERALD BACKMAN ELIMINATED IN 18TH

The play has crawled to a snail's pace. We don't have a large number of chips moving from stack to stack and the shorties are staying alive. In the last 50 minutes level we only had one player sent to the rail.

Gerald Backman got all his chips in good, the theme of the day. His 99 were way ahead of his opponent's 88. But as we've seen throughout the day, the flop of 2 Q 8 had him shaking his head and collecting at the cage after no miracle on the turn or river.

Backman takes home $1,116 for his 18th place finish.

The players are on a 15 minute break and will return to blinds at 8,000-16,000 ante 2,000.

2 NO-SHOWS

There are two no-shows, one each in Events #13 and #14. One player has a good excuse, the other is MIA.

In the Stud Tournament (#14), dealers are blinding off the stack of Dr. Will Noyes, who's at the final table of the HOSE (Event #11) tournament which began Tuesday. Tournament rules don't allow him to play in both events simultaneously, so while's he's still alive for the top prize of $21,350 in HOSE, his stud stack is bleeding away.

"I asked them if my break time (from the HOSE) is free time and they said, 'yes,' unfortunately they won't let me go back and forth.

In the 1k (#13) Daniel Illingworth (San Diego, CA) never showed up and has been blinded off for the last 8 hours. Eric Siegel, of the PPI gang, sums it up best, "The guy's impossible to read."

Another player adds, "very consistent," with a third chiming in, "doesn't bluff much."

Illingworth's 12k starting stack makes it all the way to dinner, and his food voucher is up for grabs on the last hand before break. Joe Dittmar (Long Island, NY) wins the final hand and gets the bonus.

"This is definitely my best hand of the day," he says after surviving a 17k all-in. "The voucher is number one, the pot is a close second."

The final tallies: Illingworth has 775 left which will be all-in as the big blind on the first hand back. Dr. Will's sitting on 2,400 in the Stud and a whole lot more in the HOSE as 1 of the 4 finalists

EVENT #12 - DOWN TO 18

The big run by Alex Caperonis came to a grinding halt and brought us down to the final two tables of Event #12. Caperonis was cripped a few hands earlier and put his chips in the middle with TT. He was looking good against his opponent with only one overcard, A9.

The flop was a brutal A 7 A with the turn and river bringing no joy. He was eliminated in 19th place for $930. Also recently eliminated was Vincent Bragaglia who lost a race with 55 against AQs.

NO "JOY" LUCK CLUB

Event #11 - H.O.S.E

Ming "Joy" Reslock was eliminated during the Seven Card Stud rotation when her 779T failed to improve against the AAQ8 of Peter Marvo. Ming will take home $3,660 in prize money, while Marvo continues to nurse the short stack.

The remaining 5 players are still fighting for the Borgata Poker Open trophy.

EVENT #12 - BIG HANDS

For those looking for an update on Keith Johnson it's good news and bad news. Good news is that he made the money, bad news is that he just got beat on the river. He went to battle preflop with Peter Herold to his left and all the chip went in on a coin flip. Johnson's AK was looking on the K T 4 flop, still cooking with the 8 turn card, then sent to the rail when Herold hit a queen on the river.

Keith Johnson will take home $930 for his 22nd place finish.

Also hitting the rail over the last few minutes were Anthony Diori (24th) and Joe Opie (23rd).

Tuan Gheban continues his hot run by cracking the AA of Brett Fox with K9h. He tells me that's the third time this event he beat the rockets. That moves Tuan over 500,000.

Borgata regular and accomplished mixed-game player, Brent Keller, was eliminated during the Omaha Hi/Lo rotation when his A2T5 failed to make a low and was scooped by AKJ7.

The 7th place finisher leaves with a frustrated $3,050 in winnings.

Roland Israelashvili (Forest Hills, NJ) was eliminated in 8th place and earned $2,440 for his efforts.

EVENT #12 - COLOR UP

The 26 remaining players are on a 15 break as the staff colors up and races off the 500 chips as they move into Level 17. When they return, blinds will be 5,000-10,000 with a 1,000 ante. Average chip stack is just under 20,000.

Eyeballing some of the chipstacks remaining, we have Brett Fox (530,000), Peter Alson (400,000), Esfandiar Dara (380,000), Tuan Gheban (200,000), and Justin Levy (250,000) who started the day with just 28,000.

EVENT #12 - CITY OF CHAMPIONS?

"Will you post my picture if I make the final table?" asked Eric Wood. I told him I'd post if he made the final 27 with his short stack, probably write the book if he won the tournaments. Wood came close to missing out on the final 3 tables at the hands of yet another bad beat.

He put all his chips in the middle with two black kings against his opponents pocket tens. 8 Q J had him sweating the gutter ball draw and two tens. One of those tens fell on the turn, putting him in trouble but still open ended. The river came a 9 giving him a the king high straight and live to see another hand.

While that was going on, another table finished the job getting us to 27 players. I missed the recipient of the beat, but his AA was cracked by KQ and he's off to the cage.

EVENT #11 - H.O.S.E

Charlie Townsend (Dagboro, DE) took a brutal beat during the Hold Em' rotation to end his day in the Mixed Event. He got his last 12K in the middle with KK but had his big pair cracked on the river when Brent Keller made a set of 9's.

The local PPI player earned $1,830 for his efforts.

EVENT #12 - PLAY THEM IN THE DARK

Jose Gatmaitan can thank Tuan Gheban's gambling streak for his continued life in Event #12.

In the blinds, Gheban suggested they both play their hands blind. Gheban completed in the SB and Gatmaitan checked, after peeling back a look at his cards. That left Gheban the only one playing blind.

The flop came out Ace high and they both checked. King on the turn, Gheban checked then min-raised Gatmaitan's 30k bet. Gatmaitman called the raise and they both checked the inconsequential river. Gatmaitman flipped over AJ of diamonds for top pair. Gheban finally saw his cards when he tabled KK for the turned two outer.

Lanzetta's Philly Pride

The unofficial featured table of the stud event has two of the better players who squared off at the final table in June's Borgata Summer Open.

Mike "Hooks" Lanzetta (7th BSO) & Bill "Bumpereno" Munley (2nd, BSO) are across the table from each other and having a good time with stacks of between 10k and 20k.

Lanzetta (Williamstown, NJ) is a four-for-four guy (Phillies, Eagles, Flyers & Sixers) and once again is sporting Phillies gear. This time it's a #34, Cliff Lee jersey.

When I asked him, what makes him more nervous, the possibility of Kevin Kolb starting at quarterback for the Eagles or Brad Lidge trying to save a Phillies game? He says without question. "Lidge. The Eagles have enough parts around Kolb, but Lidge hasn't proven he can do it this year.

Tuan Gheban runs good. He's been forcing most of the action at his table. The latest hand had him raising it up from middle position again when he faced an all-in reraise from the big blind. It was only 22k more to call and he flipped over J2d versus the offsuit big slick of Heung Young. "Two live cards" said one player. Another asked "Is that the kind of stuff you've been raising with this whole time?"

His two live cards became a monster with when he flopped trip 2's. No running cards to help Yoon and he exits in 36th place for $710.

Tony "Pretzel?"

Tony "Bagels" Cavezza has increased is starting 12k stack to 45k. His pocket threes boat up on the river to take 10k and eliminate one opponent.

"Bagels" is chowing on a Philly soft pretzel with yellow mustard, as one bystander yells, "gotta be the pretzels."

While Cavazza's chowing down on carbs, Jason Young's standing in the registration line as a notable 1k casualty, Bill Blanda is also out. Joining Young in line is Lacey Jones, who's playing in her first event of the day, the 4pm (1 in 10 Survior Tournament).

It's a cliche moment only because it's true. With 45th paying the same as 37th, the shortstacks who survived the money bubble now take their shot with a much bigger range of hands trying to double up for a run to the final table and glory. EVENT #12 - IN THE MONEY

It took less than an hour to lose the 5 players needed to make the money in Event #12. Mike Gorelik of Staten Island did the field a favor by knocking out bubble boy John Koliner

Both players saw a flop of A 7 T and got their chips all in with Koliner being covered. He tabled A7 but Gorelik flipped up AT for bigger aces up. No miracle on the river and those remaining are in the money.

Players are combining to 5 tables and play will resume in Level 14. Tuan Gheban, Joey "The B", and Michelle "BaconBikini" are still alive.

EVENT #11 - H.O.S.E

With tons of experience and a dominant chip-lead, Ming Reslock becomes the favorite entering the final day. On the verge of her second mixed-game final table in less than 5 days, "Joy" looks to add another win to her already impressive tournament resume.

Chaplin, Back for Another Run

The official count is 285 for the 1k. Event #9 (6-max) Champion, Maurice Paradis (Jewett, CT) is playing and smiles when asked if he's ready to go back-to-back after winning Tuesday, "sure, why not," he says.

One interesting table features local player Manny Patel (Burlington, NJ) and Borgata regular Joe Chaplin (Manhattan, NY). Chaplin's had success at Borgata, finishing 6th in the $1,500 at the 2008 Poker Open, and had a third place finish in July at the WSOP, after being as short as 325 chips.

Chaplin's glad to be back at Borg and likes the bigger events, "I wish they had a few more 2 and 3 k(s), but overall I love coming here," he says after taking down a pot with a turned flush to build his stack to 20k.

EVENT #12 WRAP UP

Event #12 has wrapped up for the night. Unofficially there are 54 players left and because the event didn't start until 1pm today, they finished play in the middle of 13. When they return tomorrow they will have 23 mins left in that level before moving up to 2k/4k blinds with a 400 ante.

Unofficially, the chip leader is Dan Jacob at $580k, with Peter Alson at $401,500, and William Preston at $237,200 right behind him.

Tomorrow is going to be another big day in the event center. The H.O.S.E. tournament will crown it's winner, as well as Event #12. The $1k NLHE (Event #13) also goes off at 11am, and the 7 stud (Event #14) will go off at 1pm.

Chris Reslock will be playing Event #14 while the likes of Jason Young, Will "I changed my nickname from The Thrill to Free Filter" Failla, and Kathy Leibert will play the $1k NLHE.

We will have official chip counts in the morning for Event #12 before the start of play.
