CHATTING WITH A CHAMP (EVENT #19)

Kurt Jewell (Frankfort, KY)
Event #19 Winner - $40,136

It was nearly 6 am when Kurt Jewell won the Event #19 No Limit Championship, but well worth it for the Frankfurt, KY resident. "I busted out in day two of the main event and was lucky to get in," he says. "I had about five minutes left before registration closed."

Jewell's back in the Event Center to support one of his fellow Blue Grass State com padres who's still playing in Event #20.

Level 18's just ended with players bagging and tagging their stack. No, this isn't a two day tournament, but the tournament is being moved to the poker room.

Maintenance is clearing the room so it can break down the 90 poker tables and start construction of the Championship Event
WPT televised final table.

24 players are making the move to the opposite end of the casino, we'll have final results in the AM.

BUBBLE TIME (EVENT #20)

While the Championship Event is on a 12 hour break, Event #20 rolls on with players hitting the money.

Dan Patterson (Oakland, NJ) has (K Q) vs. (A 9) and the hand is a roller coaster.

Flop [K 9 6] Patterson's pair of kings is ahead
Turn [9] Mr. X takes the lead with trip 9s
River [K] Patterson wins the hand with the bigger boat

"That's sick, you only see that on poker stars," says one player.
A bystander chimes in, "live poker is so rigged!"

And with that the bubble breaks for the 36 remaining players with the first pay level collecting $567.

Patterson goes out 34th when he shoves 43k with (Q J) vs. Jeremy Williamson's (Lititz, PA) pocket 8s which hits a straight on a river.

Level 16 continues (4k/8k/500 ante).

3 MILLION CHIP MAN

Brodeur Bags the Lead

The last hour of Day 3 play is very kind to Yanick Brodeur (Montreal, Canada), who seizes the WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship lead with a little more than 3 million chips. "I was really fortunate in a span of 10 or 20 hands and took advantage," says the predominantly cash heavy player.

Brodeur goes from 500k to 1 million with pocket aces, shortly followed by pocket kings and finally ace, king pushes him over 3 mill. "It was a good time to run well. It was a long day, but a fun day," he says adding, "I'm looking forward to tomorrow (Wednesday)."

Play wraps just before 11 PM, much earlier than expected, as the remaining 27 players return at 11 AM to continue playing for the top prize of $925,000.

"I play to win," says Kenny "Super Tuan" Nguyen who tanks with (Q Q) and eventually calls James "Smiley" Chin's 387k all-in. Chin has (A K), but is eliminated when a 9 falls on the river to give Tuan a king-high straight. "This is going to be fun," Nguyen says, after setting the final three tables.

As players bag and tag, here's the unofficial top 5 (in millions):

1. Yanick Brodeur (Montreal, Canada) 3
2. Frank Calo (Liverpool, NY) 2.1
3. Ray Henson (Houston, TX) 1.9
4. Maurice Hawkins (Tamarac, FL) 1.9
5. Jeremy Brown (Medford, NJ) 1.75

A more detailed list can be found at worldpokertour.com.

The average stack is 1.1 million.

FINAL 27 PLAYERS ARE LOCKED UP

WPT BORGATA POKER OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

It was a sick run here at the end. No one even dreamed the night would be over by midnight, let alone 11pm. Kathy Liebert and "Smiley" Chin went out in back-to-back hands. Chin's knockout was the craziest. Ending the night on a wild note.

We'll be back early tomorrow morning with the official chip counts. Players return tomorrow at 11am for the restart, this time playing down in the Borgata poker room until the TV table six players. There are 12 minutes and 43 seconds remaining in Level 24.

The final eliminations of the evening, all receiving $10,750 for their efforts:

28th - "Smiley" Chin
29th - Kathy Liebert
30th - Steven Wolansky
31st - Doug Carli
32nd - Ben Lin
33rd - Artyem Perlov
34th - Joseph Brattole
35th - Thomas Sheets
36th - Nick Manfredo

SUPER TUAN!

Our final hand of the night in the Championship Event sees Kenny "Super Tuan" Nguyen get it in against James "Smiley" Chin. Tuan has Chin covered and held QQ against Chin's AK.

The flop came [T J 4] Tuan screamed for "NO QUEEN!!!" when the turn came a [K], giving Chin the better pair and leaving Tuan with 7 outs (3 aces or 4 nines).

He called for a 9, and the dealer burned. After hesitating ever so slightly, the dealer turned the river card and out fell a black 9.

"I HIT A NINE! I HIT A NINE!", screamed Tuan. Chin was dejected, and put his arms up in the air as if to say, "I surrender".

Chin wanted to give a shout out to Gordon Eng and thank him for his support and luck. Both players made it pretty deep in the Main Event and both played very well. Gordon went out when his back to back Aces were felled by a set and a straight.

Play has ended for the night as we are down to 27 and the floor is coloring up and players are bagging chips. They will resume tomorrow morning at 11am in the main poker room. Come down and check out the action live.
