6-MAX CHAMPION
Only 5 hands are played heads-up when Maurice Paradis is in paradise with the 6-max championship.
"It feels great," says Maurice Paradis, who beats Josh Brikis (Monroeville, PA) for the title.
On the final hand, Brikis raises with (6-3) and Paradis calls with (A 10). The flop is [10 10 6] and the action is underway. Brikis bets 120k, Paradis raises to 300k, Paradis shoves all-in and sees the bad news.
Paradis' set of tens holds and Brikis has another runner-up finish, after finishing second in the same event at the World Series of Poker. "I took control of the tournament early and did that most of the way," says Brikis, who earns $22,269, "I took a hit five-handed when my jacks ran into queens. I built it back up, but couldn't get it done.
This was Paradis' first 6-max tournament, live or on-line and was able to adjust his game easily.
"I played under the gun like I was in mid-position, it wasn't that tough."
