After eliminating the third and fourth place finishers, Norman Whiteley (Newark, DE) closes the deal by beating Al Riccobono (Ossining, NY) heads-up to win the Limit Championship.
On the final hand, the players are even in chips as Riccobono holds (Q 3) against Whiteley's (7 9 of hearts). The flop is [Q 7 2] with one heart, and all the money's in. Riccobono's in good shape with top pair against middle pair, but running hearts gives Whiteley the flush and the title.
"I'm dissappointed," says Riccobono who earns $7,556 for second place, "the trophy meant a lot to me. The money comes and goes, but the glory is what we all play for."
"I'm thrilled," says Whiteley who specializies in limit tournaments. "You can avoid the train wrecks in limit and get to play more poker (than in NL)."
Whiteley's title follows his 8th place finish at Brogata in the Summer Open stud event.
